It's always a thrill to discover new music. I came across Paramore via NYT's 'Popcast'. I found out from younger colleagues at work that this band's been around for at least a decade and so I downloaded the Apple Music playlist as one does. It turned out to be a mixed bag of Punk Pop : some very nice tracks and others that didn't do much for me.
But this song, Hard Times, from their new album After Laughter which is a right turn to 1980's synth pop / New Wave had me captivated. It's a beautifully crafted pop song - brief and catchy with the sun of the loveliest little hook shining merrily over more cloudy lyrics " All that I want is to wake up fine / Tell me that I'm alright, I'm not going to die / All that I want is a hole in the ground / You can tell me when it's alright for me to come out ". Very Talking Heads too (my current earworm)
Album reviews : Pitchfork, Rolling Stone
Great piece of work overall. I've been listening to it on loop the last few days. Enjoy !
