A New Kind Of Blue

The time between this post and the last wasn't so easy but it was life and not much more to be said.

And the strangest happened : I went off  rock music for the longest time.An occasional Radiohead, Steely Dan or Beatles maybe but it got to a point a few months ago where mostly it was , like, one guitar riff and i'd throw up.

Rockist (this) me , rock blog this - and then from that to this ? Crazy didn't begin to say it.

It's not that drastic anymore. Plenty of rock moments still left in here.. ! Like when I blew some heart last month on Springsteen's Bobby Jean where it ends  in soul-sax glory , big-sax glory. BIG sax solo. This and the one that ends Thunder Road - that's sax solos your world can turn on.

* RIP Clarence 'Big Man' Clemons*

But rock's not going to be my only musical kick anymore , maybe not even the chief  musical kick anymore...

What happened? Who knows ? And who cares ! But something new , something fresh at last !

I listened to some old Hindi/Urdu songs and ghazals over this period. Some 80's Synth-Pop, some Hip Hop even. Ha! And Electronica. In spades. Glad i did because a lot of it's going to stay with me.

What I'm most into now though are jazz and classical. A bit of jazz-rock i'd always been into but I'd never really got trad. Suddenly it's speaking to me, including in the sort of language - 20's Satchmo, 30's Standards, ballads both Bop and Modal - that i never thought i'd even want to get ! And even if there was a small foundation of Jazz Rock this could build itself on , what about  classical ? Where did that come from ? Again, it just did and  i'm so glad  !

It could well be that as you get older you veer more towards non-vocal or less-vocal genres. A lot of the vocals stuff just doesn't fit into my closet anymore, a lot of it just doesn't connect. Though not , by any stretch of imagination, all of it.

You love something  like this one : Stan Getz / Joao & Astrud Gilberto - Girl From Ipanema
